Tuesday 19th October – Important NZ Post Update – Limited Collections

Hi there,

We are continuing to see sustained demand for online shopping in Auckland.

As a result, we’re delivering nearly 60% more items a week, and we’re still facing a significant challenge in clearing the volume of items we are receiving in our Auckland network.

We will continue to work hard behind-the-scenes to maximise the flow of items through our network – we’ve hired 800 people across processing and delivery, called upon hundreds of corporate volunteers, expanded into new sites and continue to operate 7 days a week and into the evenings.

Although we do expect to see some relief once Government restrictions on Auckland retailers ease, we currently, have a backlog of nearly 250,000 items in our Auckland network

This has been increasing in recent weeks, and our Auckland sites are now operating at maximum capacity, putting pressure on our people as they continue to safely navigate COVID working restrictions.

Our priority is ensuring that we can clear this backlog ahead of the peak sending period and busiest weekend of the year – Black Friday (26 November) and Cyber Monday (29 November). To achieve this, we have revised our approach for Auckland acceptance restrictions.
Updated Restrictions

As of Wednesday 20 October, specific daily acceptance limits will be in place for Auckland deliveries.

Please note, your daily limit will be 945.

These limits have been calculated based on your current and pre-lockdown delivery levels and will remain in place until the Auckland backlog has cleared.

As we focus on reducing this backlog, we are unable to accept volumes above these limits.

Our weekend collection of parcels for delivery in Auckland will continue to be placed on hold.

We will provide visibility on how our backlog and carryover is tracking via our website and the daily Network Report.

Once the backlog has been cleared, restrictions will be eased but this will be in a measured way to avoid a sudden surge of parcels.

There are currently no acceptance limits for parcels destined for other parts of the country.

We will continue to monitor demand on our sites based in Alert Level 3 locations, and these limits will remain in place until the backlog is cleared. Please note, actual volumes will be monitored against these limits.

Thank you again for your support, understanding and flexibility as we work through these challenges together.
